The S&P 500 closed out its worst month of the year (April) sliding nearly 5%. Thanks to the strong start to the year, the S&P 500 still sits with a YTD gain of more than 5% - the first time since 1936 where the S&P was up at least 10% in Q1 & then down at least 4% in April. That year ended up being a good buying opportunity, as the index was up a further 25% the rest of the year. This was only the 7th year in history of the S&P 500 that the index was up at least 10% in Q1 and down at all in April. In the past 50 years, the returns the rest of the year have been a bit mixed but have tended to skew positive (1987 obviously the big outlier).
